At Smile Corporation, we know there are other clear aligner choices on the market. That is why we decided to provide a product that is not just another choice but an entire program. SmileTRU clear aligners allow practitioners to work with the patient regardless of the extent of their misalignment. It is categorised into 4 levels: Level 1 – Canine-to-Canine, Level 2 – Premolar-to-Premolar, Level 3 – Full-mouth and Level 4 – Full-mouth in conjunction with orthopaedic appliances.

The Four Levels of SmileTRU Cases:

Level 1 – Reset of Anterior Teeth Only

(6 trays per arch. Cosmetic alignment without disturbing the posterior occlusion)

Level 2 – Reset of Premolar to Premolar Only

(12 trays per arch)

Level 3 – Reset Full Maxillary and Mandibular Arch

(18 trays per arch)

Level 4 – Reset Full Maxillary and Mandibular Arch

(24 trays per arch)

A Level 4 case can be pre-treated with appliances to prepare the case for clear aligner treatment. The appliances are made at additional cost and is therefore not included in the level 4 treatment package.

You have the option of requesting us here at Smile Corporation to fabricate the positioners on a three-month basis, or to fabricate the entire set of positioners required to completely treat the case. The three-month option allows you to assess the progress of the treatment. If “In Treatment Adjustments” are required, they can be easily made by taking new impressions saving you and your patient time and money.

If the three-month fabrication option is selected, Smile Corporation will automatically construct the next three months of clear positioners unless you contact our laboratory requesting an “In Treatment Adjustment”. If an “In Treatment Adjustment” is required the patient should continue to wear the last set of correctly fitting positioners as retainers. This same technique can be employed if you wish to use additional positioners for final “Aesthetic Detailing”.

Most cases are treated by changing the clear positioners every 14 days. Smile Corporation will provide you with the approximate number of clear positioners required to treat the individual case.

SmileTRU Case Studies

  • Jepthah Case 1 Level 3

    For this anterior open bite case and spacing, we used SmileTRU clear aligner therapy to close the gaps and reduce the overjet. The case was then finalised with composite bonding to close the residual gaps at the distal of the upper laterals to create the correct proportions and ratios to complete the smile.

  • Mathew Case 2 Level 3

    This patient wanted to have aligners only to correct his smile as much as possible. He has a deep bite and retruded mandible. He also has retained lower E’s. The most complete treatment for him would be to pre- treat with a lower ALF appliance and upper RN Sagittal with bite pads however, due to work commitments he was unable to wear these. The outcome is fantastic considering the compromise made in the treatment and case being completed with SmileTRU aligners only and in less than 10 months.

  • Rafca Case 3 Level 3

    This lovely patient had a complete open bite, only occluding on the 6’s and 7’s. This treatment was completed in 12 months using SmileTRU aligners with cut out holes for elastics to help guide and close the bite. An amazing outcome where previous dentist’s suggested extractions and 24 months in fixed braces.

  • Joel Case 4 Level 3

A deep bite case that was pre-treated with a lower ALF and upper RN Sagittal plates with occlusal pads to disclude the teeth and allow for the retruded mandible to be brought down and forward. This corrected the deep bite and relieved the clicking and popping in his TMJ causing jaw pain. The case was then completed with a course of SmileTRU aligners and composite bonding placed on the upper laterals to correct the microdontic size and achieve the correct ratios and proportions. This case was completed in 14 months.

  • Isaac Case 5 Level 3

Isaac came to our clinic to correct his extreme anterior crowding and collapsed in buccal corridors. We used SmileTRU clear aligners to create volume and width whilst also correcting his crowding and bringing the anterior teeth into alignment. By using aligners to upright and expand the arch through the canines, pre molars and molars, we were also then able to lift up the gingival zenith to be more in line without having to perform a gingivectomy. This case was completed in only 10 months.

  • Wayne Case 6 Level 4

This case involved a deep bite, retruded mandible and extremely proclined upper anterior teeth. We began the treatment with lower ALF and upper RN Sagittal plates with occlusal pads to disclude the teeth and allow for the retruded mandible to be brought down and forward. We also extruded the posterior teeth to create a new height and posterior stop in this new position to prevent the jaw from relapsing. Once this stage was completed, we then employed the use of SmileTRU clear aligners to correct the smile. The case was completed in only 12 months.

  • Verushka Case 7 Level 4

This patient suffered from severe headaches, TMJ issues and sleep apnoea. It’s clear from the photos that she had a severe retruded mandible and deep bite leading to airway obstruction. Treatment for this case included pre-treatment with lower ALF and upper RN Sagittal appliances with occlusal pads to disclude the teeth and allow for the retruded mandible to be brought down and forward. This corrected the deep bite and opened the airways significantly. The case was completed with SmileTRU clear aligners. The patient reported better sleep, no snoring and significantly less headaches within the first three months of treatment. The case was completed in 14 months. The patient is incredibly happy with the outcome including improved sleep and breathing.

  • Vishnu Case 8 Level 3

This case involved a deep bite, retruded mandible and extremely proclined upper anterior teeth. We began the pre-treatment with lower ALF and upper RN Sagittal plates with occlusal pads on the upper 7’s to create a tripod effect and allow for the retruded mandible to be brought down and forward with the use of class 2 elastics . We also extruded the lower 6’s with the use of vertical elastics  to create a new height and posterior stop in this new position to prevent the jaw from relapsing. Once this stage was completed, we then employed the use of SmileTRU clear aligners to correct the smile. The case was completed in only 12 months.

How do patients care for their SmileTRU positioners?

  • The tooth positioners should always be placed in the provided retainer box when not in use.
  • Keep the retainer box with positioners out of the reach of children and away from the family dog.
  • The tooth positioners should not be exposed to extreme heat.
  • Use denture cleaner to clean the positioners. DO NOT  use chemicals or toothpaste as these can damage the positioners.
  • Positioners should be removed when eating and drinking (except water).
  • Some patients experience an excess of saliva when starting treatment.
  • One or more teeth may become temporarily sensitive when placing new positioners.
  • The positioners may have a mild effect on speech. Talking with the positioners in place will speed adaptation process.
  • The patient must maintain proper oral hygiene. Failure to do so can cause cavities and periodontal disease.
